Lest we forget: A Rich Fascist and a Forgotten Heroine:
A comparison in Perceived Morality

The Spanish philosopher Miguel de Unamuno (186-1936) certainly had Il Duce and Franco’s numbers; "That which the Fascists hate above all else, is intelligence”.
And as you’d expect, Lenin and Trotsky understood what inspired that ‘Roman’ salute; “Fascism is Capitalism in decay” said Lenin, whilst Trotsky saw it as “nothing but Capitalist reaction”.
But if di Canio delivers the goals, he will be lionized and cheered to the rafters every bit as much as that man who ended his days hanging upside down from a Milan lamp post.
So, you might ask, in the greater scheme of things, what’s di Canio doing here in this bit of angry leftie invective alongside a forgotten old lady who died in 2008? He’s here because his appointment epitomizes the crass, inhuman and grasping functionality of capitalism. Like our government, the foreign owners of our football clubs are not particularly interested in sport. They are interested in importance, power … and profit.
Who remembers this lady?
Her name was Irena Sendler
Died: May 12, 2008 (aged 98)
Warsaw, Poland
Died: May 12, 2008 (aged 98)
Warsaw, Poland
During WWII, Irena, got permission to work in the Warsaw ghetto, as a Plumbing/Sewer specialist. She had an ulterior motive. Irena smuggled Jewish infants out in the bottom of the tool box she carried. She also carried a burlap sack in the back of her truck, for larger kids.
Irena kept a dog in the back that she trained to bark when the Nazi soldiers let her in and out of the ghetto. The soldiers, of course, wanted nothing to do with the dog and the barking covered the kids/infants noises
Irena kept a record of the names of all the kids she had smuggled out, in a glass jar that she buried under a tree in her back yard.
After the war, she tried to locate any parents that may have survived and tried to reunite the family. Most had been gassed. Those kids she helped got placed into foster family homes or adopted.
In 2007 Irena was up for the Nobel Peace Prize. She was not selected. Al Gore won, for a slide show on Global Warming. Later another politician, Barack Obama, won for his work as a community organizer for ACORN.
In MEMORIAM - 68 YEARS LATER
It is now more than 68 years since the Second World War in Europe ended. This small feature, as an e-mail, is being sent as a memorial chain, in memory of the six million Jews, 20 million Russians, 10 million Christians and 1,900 Catholic priests who were murdered, massacred, raped, burned, starved and humiliated. Now, Iran , and others, claim the HOLOCAUST to be 'a myth'. It's imperative to make sure the world never forgets, because there are others who would like to do it again.
This story is more important than football and ought to reach 40 million people worldwide. Join us and be a link in the memorial chain and help us distribute it around the world. Please send this to people you know and ask them to continue the memorial chain.
In the wider wonderful world of 21st century celebrity culture, whether or not Paolo di Canio is a Fascist is irrelevant. It’s simply his politics in this case which throw a larger, brighter spotlight on the way we idolise all the wrong people whilst never stopping to think, to dig a little deeper, to examine what the unsung and the forgotten have done for humanity in the past. To quote that famous commentary from the 1966 World Cup “They think it’s all over…” Sorry, Sunderland. Whilst Hitler and Mussolini remain indelibly in history’s archives, it is never over.
